Gales Solicitors backs Law Society research and urges people to remember to include digital passwords in their wills

14th Jun 2021

Recent research by the Society suggested that only 7 per cent of people fully understood the importance of digital information such as passwords, social media accounts and online or Cloud-based photos after they have died.

Of 1,000 respondents to the survey, 93 per cent of those who had a will said they had not considered including digital information in it. This presents a significant potential challenge to executors and administrators.

Matthew advised, “It is extremely important to ensure that executors of your will would have access to items such as online banking and other online financial online dealings such as credit cards and shares. In today’s world so much of what could affect the value of our estate is online or in the Cloud.”

Of those surveyed, only 29 per cent said they had an up-to-date will.

Matthew concluded, “If you would like Wills and Probate advice, please get in contact with the team at Gales Solicitors who will be happy to help.  Tel. 01202 512227 e: mail@gales-solicitors.co.uk
