Older people in England and Wales are getting divorced (and re-married) in ever greater numbers. The office for national Statistics have shown that between 1990 and 2012 there was an 85% increase in divorce in the over 60’s. Senior Partner Matthew Moore at Gales Solicitors advises on the importance of taking proper advice before committing to any division of assets in a divorce, particularly in a divorce later on in life, or close to or after retirement.

Gales Solicitors is taking part in the national initiative ‘Free Wills Month’.  The scheme, which takes place every October, is backed by charities and solicitors ask their clients to consider leaving a donation to a chosen cause when they die.  The Free Wills Month campaign is aimed at people aged 55 and over.

Gales Solicitors respond to research which shows that two-thirds of parents make no legal provision for kids

Research from Direct Line Life Insurance shows that 65% of parents have made no legal provision for who would raise their children if they were no longer able to. It was also found that of those who had discussed the matter, 31% wouldn't give the person access to money from their estate, with 30% saying they would rather leave it in trust for their children.
